One of my buddies is the mashup King of the East Coast… in music, that is. His expertise is creating new radio and club-worthy music by sampling drums from one music track, instruments from another track and vocals from a third. He owns a few expensive toys.
Now, the web has begun mashups of its own. A recent trend is to take the open-technology from an online mapping site (like Google Maps) and “mas” it with another geographically-friendly service. Now restaurants, gas prices and landmarks can quickly be logged by the content-happy geeks of the world.
My favorite ofthis innovations is the Gmap Pedometer, which allows you to find out the true distance between two points, whether you want to walk or fly with the crow.
Many of the others can be found at Google Maps Mania, which logs the new and old adopters. And here we are in this stage of Web 2.0.
“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.”
~ Galileo Galilei
