lines of integrity | gratitude

by t on July 31, 2006

“I am hoping that perhaps you can help me…”
[or] “I would be grateful if you could assist…”

This is another posting regarding snippets of “vocabulary” I’ve instilled in my business relations.

One thing I’ve learned in a sales campaign (particularly cold-calling) is that respect, gratitude and humility can open more doors than one might guess. The sales person who calls on a prospective client and tells the Executive Assistant, “I need to speak to Bob” is going nowhere, fast.

Everyone wants to be treated with respect. By acknowledging each and every person as a human with certain responsibilities (and power), you may quickly turn some gatekeepers into champions of your cause. Be truthful in your thankfulness. Empower each contact and ask (humbly) for their help. You’d be surprised at how many are willing and delighted to assist… if you only ask!
