essential car driving resources

by t on January 13, 2006

Want less stress while driving? Take advantage of some of the most affordable, nearly-essential driving memberships. Here are two deals that offer so much bang for the buck that even folks who don’t have a car should consider them.

aaa: For a simple $55 a year, you get peace of mind whenever you travel. No matter the time or place, if you break down, you’re always in-reach of free towing, free fuel, free locksmith, a travel agent and discounts on hotels, rental cars and thousands of other services. Think about it – one breakdown and the membership has paid for itself.

ez-pass: Costs only the deposit for a plastic tag that you display on your dash when going through a toll booth. We’ve stopped counting the amount of times that we’ve seen long lines at a highway, bridge or tunnel toll while we simply pass right by them all using the EZ-Pass lane. Here how it works: you determine a “debit” amount that is applied to your ez-pass account from your credit card (say, $30), your tolls are deducted from this amount everytime you pass thru a toll… and when your balance goes below $10, your credit card automatically gets charged another $30 to bump up the debit available. No more waiting in line… but also no more spare change, and a simple accounting bill can be sent to you that allows you to account for all of your spending on tolls. If you have a car and travel in the northeast US, there is no reason not to have one of these.
